A WARNING AND A HOPE

Howsoever, that the Books referred to on this Website, particularly Book III of the Monograph ‘Fragments of Peace & War’, just may be such ‘last word’ as is possible in respect of Wilfred Owen’s writings, it is incumbent of one and all, in the interests of truth and integrity, to warn that the texts, in which we presently have of many of the Poems, must be tentative because of the undoubted proven loss of later and ‘finished’ manuscripts – most particularly of ‘Strange Meeting’ - which Wilfred Owen noted as being ‘finished’ Poem with 4 pages of manuscript ‘filled’.

So much for the warning – that said, one can also express a hope; and that hope is that the later and ‘finished’ manuscripts, which we know existed – certainly handwritten and also, possibly, typed – with final texts of his most important Poems – may yet be found.
